SpectraLayers Pro 4 Professional spectral editing

SpectraLayers Pro offers a unique layers concept for working with audio data which offers brand new options for audio editing, mixing and sound design.

Layers Panel

Layers Panel

Keep your project in view at all times with the layers panel.

1 Color-coded layers
In SpectraLayers Pro, every layer’s spectral graph is tagged with its own unique color. Colors can be changed instantly at any time.

2 Group layers
Create mixed down virtual groups from different layers. Groups can be separated by color, muted or played back solo.

3 Drag to re-order
Layers can now be dragged into any order you like.

4 Floating panels
The Layers, Channels, and History panels can now be anchored in the SpectraLayers Pro workspace, or they can float over the workspace or on a secondary monitor.

Waveform display

Waveform display

The Waveform Display shows selections, color-coded project layer content, relative amplitudes, and more.

Overview Bar

The Overview Bar provides graphic, color-coded information about selection range, layer program length and location, layer phase status, mute state, and marker/region positions.

3D Displace

The 3D Displace feature in SpectraLayers Pro 3 provides spectacular, intricate visualizations of spectral audio data. In 3D Displace Mode, editors can explore the amplitude envelopes of any sound in isolation, and the relative amplitude power relationships that exist in projects with multiple audio channels or tracks.

Go multidimensional instantly with the Displacement Pad, a joystick control for changing the 3D view that features continuous access for a super-smooth 3D workflow.

Sound can be freely transposed by using the Select, Move, and Scale tools.

Frequency range display options

Frequency range display options

Toggle your view to display audio frequency ranges plotted on your choice of logarithmic scales. Options include the popular mel scale, Bark scale, ERB (Equivalent Rectangular Bandwidth), and MIDI-logarithmic.

Sketch out noise

Sketch out noise

Frequencies and noise can be drawn directly into the spectral display in SpectraLayers Pro.

Sound design & mixing

Spectral Casting / Spectral Molding

Spectral casting & spectral molding functions provide endless creative possibilities. The frequency spectrum of a layer can be used as a cast for a second layer, making SpectraLayers Pro an elegant solution for creative mixing techniques and sophisticated sound design.

Noise reduction process

SpectraLayers Pro invites you to open an audio file, extract the elements you need, and leave the rest behind — it's a new way of thinking about noise reduction!

Three-step audio extraction

In this example, we loaded a beat loop from Iced, a Sound Series sample library, into SpectraLayers Pro for some quick creative deconstruction.

Precise repairs

Remove unwanted noises and artifacts with ease while leaving surrounding audio data completely intact.

Isolate events

Separate music and dialogue into individual component layers.

Pitch correction

Perform pitch correction on user-selected components of an audio file.

Tools

The selection tools in SpectraLayers Pro 4 allow for the precise editing of individual frequency ranges.

Selection

Selection

The Selection Tool offers four options: Rectangular, Elliptical, Time Range, and Frequency Range. Left-click and drag to create a Rectangular, Elliptical, or Time Range selection of any size.

To make a Frequency Range selection, click and drag over a frequency range of any height; releasing the mouse button will automatically expand the selection to cover the entire width of the spectral graph. Holding down the Shift key while you work allows you to create selections with any number of non-contiguous areas. Full-spectrum time range selections can also be made with the Time Cursor tool; simply hold down the Shift key and click-drag to create a selection.

Harmonics

Harmonics

The Harmonics Selection Tool is a hallmark SpectraLayers feature with enormous potential for making clean, complete selections of rich, complex material.

In the most basic scenario, the tool is utilized by selecting it and hovering over the fundamental tone of the material targeted for selection. The tool seeks upward from the fundamental, highlighting it as well as its associated harmonic overtone series. Simply click and draw over the fundamental tone to establish a selection that isolates the target and spans its entire harmonic spectrum. You can also use the new "Lock to Frequency" to do this.

Brush

Brush

The Brush Selection Tool allows you to paint selections directly in the spectral graph; simply select the tool, hold down the left mouse button, and start painting!

Your selection will be established upon releasing the button. Holding down the Shift key while you work allows you to create selections with any number of non-contiguous areas.

Frequency

Frequency

The Frequency Selection Tool can intelligently sense and trace any contiguous frequency band that runs through the spectral graph, even as its frequency changes over time.

To use it, select the tool, place it over a target frequency that winds through the spectral graph, and click/draw to establish a selection. Use the new "Lock to Frequency" feature to select the frequency faster.

Magic Wand

Magic Wand

The Magic Wand Selection Tool intelligently selects defined shapes on the spectral graph. To use it, select the tool and hold it over any shape, click once to establish a selection that spans an area defined by the Magic Wand’s customizable tip, or click-hold the left mouse button and draw to expand outward.

Release the mouse button to establish your selection. Holding down the Shift key while you work allows you to create selections with any number of non-contiguous areas.

Lasso

Lasso

The Lasso Tool allows you to freehand-draw shapes in the spectral graph. When you close a shape, the area inside it is selected.

The Polygonal Lasso Tool allows you to create selections with straight-line precision. Click once anywhere on the perimeter of your target selection in the spectral graph. Move the mouse and click to create straight lines that surround it. Establish a closed shape by double-clicking over the start point; the interior of the polygon will become selected.

Retouch Tools

The Amplify, Clone, and Erase tools in SpectraLayers Pro can be used to edit audio on any layer at any time. Access these options at any stage in the editing process to assist with critical repair and restore operations, creative sound design work, and fun experimentation. Tool behaviors can be modified in useful and interesting ways — use the controls located right above the spectral display to design your own brush tips.
